Alex

        Alex, the wonderdog, is my almost-constant companion.  A Labrador retriever-mix, Alex was rescued from the Toledo Humane Society Shelter by the trainers of Assistance Dogs of America, Inc.  After over a year's training, he came to live with me in south Florida as my assistance. dog.  

        He helps me in many ways.  Alex can pick up things that are dropped, fetch the cordless telephone and find the TV remote, open and close doors and drawers, and is a wonderful "chick magnet."  He can even "Brace," and let me support myself on him as I stand from the floor or ground.

        Alex is a favorite with my students, and I seriously believe that there are students in my FIU classes who attend only to see him.  If you want to read more about Alex, you can click here to go to some writings about him.
